From their start over 20 years ago – doing bluesy covers of Rolling Stones material – Milwaukee’s Altered Five has developed into a top-tier national (and international) act. Anchored by the booming baritone of frontman Jeff “JT” Taylor, the quintet built its repertoire with crafty songwriting pivoting on great turns-of-phrase (how can you NOT appreciate a title like “Great Minds Drink Alike?”). The band balances their songs through showcasing instrumental musicianship of other members with Taylor’s attention-capturing power and resonance.
Recently, the band took a new step in control of their destiny – as guitarist Jeff Schroedl parleyed decades of music publishing experience into ownership of their record label – the venerable Blind Pig Records.
